Default How do you you know your ignition switch is bad?

So tried to go to work right now and put my key in tried to turn it on and radio lit up but dashboard was completely black and didn’t turn on. After some try’s it turned on then shut off and again, after some try’s it turned on I went to put gas and car shut down upon entering the gas station. Battery is from January 2020 so not too old so I know it’s not the battery and the connection are tight and secured. Are these symptoms of possible ignition switch?

The symptoms you described are all consistent with bad ignition switch contacts, there is a write up already on this site that details the removal and disassembly of ignition switch to clean the pitted and burnt contacts, or you can buy a new ignition switch contact block, just make sure you are buying OEM, many Chinese knock off's.

gotcha, I’m assuming I maybe bought a Chinese knockoff? I got it from autozone about a year ago I replaced this part it’s the acdelco brand? Is that good?

Problem is, even the switches sold by usually reputable sources, like Rock Auto, come in AC Delco boxes, and are marked "made in China".......

EDIT....I forgot to add that I very recently purchased a new ignition switch, from Rock Auto, and it was made in China.

AC Delco remarkets and rebrands things as well, like AC Delco lifters are made by Delphi, not AC Delco.

Just curious, did you install it in your car, and does it function properly? My EBCM module went bad, causing the dash to light up (warning lights) like a Christmas tree, and it was suggested that along with sending out the EBCM for repair, the ignition switch might have also gone bad. So, I sent out the brake unit, first, and also ordered an ignition switch, just in case. So far, the brake fix has done the trick, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed........
