Could someone send me in the right direction?
2001 base 5.7 eng. replacing my timig chain and would like to find a chain tensior brackett,
my 01 does not have the holes drilled in the block for the tensioner. I have the one piece
tensioner that goes between the gears and looks like it holds the chain on both sides.
Thaks, mike venth
I have new chain, and gear and it came with the tensior. Talking with Bill C, he said that they have a brackett to hold it that bolts to the cam holder plate.
Thanks
Working with Bill Curlee he said that with the big cam, duel springs, roller rockers, melling pump, ported /polished heads, headers that
I should use a tensior. The new chain, gears came with it anyway. I talked to Bill yesterday and told him that the block was not drilled for the tensior,
so he said that there was a adapter out there that would solve that. Bill has been a great help over the years and, so when I'm dealing with a problem
or making upgrades he is right there to help me.
Thanks Bill and the forum members for all your help.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, that's a damper, not a tensioner. A tensioner puts tension on the chain while a damper just stops it from whipping around.
That being said, make sure to stick with the torque specs when tightening the button head screws as the metal seems kind of soft.
They're in the instructions - 15-18 ft-lbs. I just installed this kit a few days ago and tightened them to about 17 ft-lbs. Make sure to Loctite everything!
One more thing: does your existing camshaft retainer plate have recessed bolt holes? I forgot when they switched to this style.

G Loc My camshaft retainer plate does Not have recessed bolt holes. Would you know what year and what model had it.
I have a machine shop and could recess them myself. This is my first LS Eng. build, learning alot.
Thanks

My 2002 vert has that style plate. Somewhere in in the 01 GM switched over to using LS6 blocks that's probably why my 02 has the holes drilled the taped for that damper your installing

No need to do that, you're good. Reason I asked is that I found a post or two somewhere expressing concern about using this adapter with the style that has recessed holes. You should go ahead and replace it anyways (if you haven't already). Mahle makes one, part # B31822

The plate will be here by the end of the day. Be heading to the auto parts store later on and pick up the new cam plate also.
Thanks for all the great info folks, made this project go a lot smother.
