Default Ignition problem

‘04 w/ approx 40k miles. Installed new ign switch. Plan on new cyl but no brass key to program. Bought used and don’t have one. Dealer is lost. What to do?

not sure what you are asking. C5 keys are not programmable. The key fob syncs with the car. The key has a resistor pellet that has to match what the car expects the resistance to be, What does “new cyl” mean? If you take your registration to the dealer he’ should be able to tell you based on the VIN what resistor pellet resistor your car should have. AND he should be able to cut the key based on the the original lock.

Default Ignition question

Thanks for your response —
I put old key cylinder and tumblers into new ignition switch housing. When done, key would not turn. Took old and new assembly to dealer to examine.
They said they needed brass key that came with the car to “reprogram”. Evidently they meant “sync” fob to car.
Long story short, they’re putting in new key cylinder and cutting new keys to match. Total damage — $610 to do this and put my dash back together.@
