Installed TModCustom ISO shifter - WOW~!
My 04 Z06 (48k miles) had a stock shifter in it when I got it - hated the long throw and slop. Was able to buy a Hinson shifter from a forum member and dropped it in with the Anti Venom Washer. The Hinson was stiff but was able to loosen it up and I actually loved the two to three shift (as well as the three to four shift) but HATED the fourth to fifth shift and even the fifth to sixth- I would have lived with it BUT, i had a vibration on hard accelaration from the Torque Tube- so I began searcing for a solution.
Anyway - I was going to buy an MGW and even placed an order ( four week delay) but also sent TMODCUSTOMS (supporting member) an email. After emailing with Tom, I wound up purchasing his ISO Sfifter kit with Delrin bushings and 20% reduction. When I recevied the package and looked at the product, you can tell this thing is build to last. The box has all upgraded internals. I actually thought something was wrong because the cup would not slide. I dropped the shifter on the box and it had to be pressed firmly in place because the plastic cup he uses is beefed up. Sure enough, with the shifter mounted on the box, you are able to move it and actually hear it glide (like a suction sound) through the bushings. Excited, I got to work - took about 30 minutes - Torqued the Tourqe Tube bolts to 23lbs and used Red Loctight to keep things in place - buttoned it up and went to shift. WOW - this thing is so precise - gear changes are positive and smooth - It feels like it is connected directly to the transmission- an absolutely different experience from stock.
The throw is longer than the Hinson ( I like short quick throws) but there is no struggling with any gears or reverse (although if you leave the Hinson in reverse when you park, it loosens up ALOT overtime) - I still may try the Hinson on the TMOD box to see what that feels like but honestly - I am truly impressed and VERY happy.
Anyway, I felt that I had to share as my Z06 feels like a new car - If anyone is searching for a shifter, I would recommend they email Tom and let him set you up- you will not be disappointed.
