Default Another Jacking Question

Sorry if this is but I searched and could not find answer.

if you are only jacking a corner using a puck, where is the safest and best place to place a jackstand? Front and back.

Also, when jacking the entire rear, can a 2x4 or 2x6 be used in place of the cross beam brace?

Thanks.

I use my jack with a rubber pad on the lift point, and just jack up along the rocker panel. If you go about under the side mirror both front and rear come up evenly. I then put the jack stands on the "jacking points". If youre only doing one corner you can try and get the jack stand on the cradle. Also, when jacking up the rear you can put the jack right on the rear cradle under the diff.

If I jack a corner, I stick the jacking puck right in the oval hole for jacking pucks and lift there. If I am only lifting a corner, I ensure I never get underneath the car. It will generally lower it self slowly when staying on the hydraulic jack, but as long as you're safe and aren't taking a ton of time you don't need to rest it on a stand.

If I am jacking the rear, I use a 2x6 in place of a cross beam. The much lower profile of a 2x6 makes life easier. I then lower it down onto stands, either on the 2x6 or on the two puck areas, depending on what I need to access.

If I am jacking the front, I do the same thing, except my standard jack doesn't reach due to clearance, so I drive up on ramps first. (Actually if I can avoid jacking the front, I always use ramps. With stands on the pucks for paranoia's sake. I have two-piece race ramps.)

I've only jacked at a corner when on the road, when my rear tire bottomed out on the inner fender, split and got wedged. Jacked it at the shipping slot at that corner.
Other than that, always jacked the side of the car on the frame as Kubs described and jack stands at shipping slots, with hockey pucks at all points. Never even
jacked at the front or rear, seems like a pain. Can have it up on all fours in less than four minutes, probably two if I really tried. Stay safe.

Walleyejack, I think that's fair. I also think that if one is sure to know not to place any of their body underneath, or close to underneath, the car, then I think it's safe. You see tons of shops doing it (though I guess that doesn't make it good practice.) But each have their personal tolerance of risk, yknow?

I would just like to share info everyone may know that when jacking up the rear of a C5 or a vehicle the front wheels will be free to roll, as the parking brakes are in the rear. That is how I found out a few years ago my flat looking garage floor actually had one section that had a slight decline. It was not noticeable to look at it.
I was lucky no injuries or damage done. But it got my attention when the jack started moving with the rear of the car on a cross bar adapter. W

A friend of mine who worked in my brother-in-law's shop decided to cut corners and not use jack stands. HE'S DEAD.
