Why is it that they only sell the housing and gears and not just the gears? I want to change the gears myself but Breathless is the only ones who sell just he gears that I see, but that was 3.90's alittle much for me in my A4...... Who sells just the Ring and pinion?

because on the unique C5 carrier, it is a major job to change the gears. It takes special alignment tools and a shim pack (the shim pack alone is reported to sell for around $200).
There are a few forum vendors that will swap the gears for you, thus negating the cost of an entire carrier.
Keep in mind that a used 3.15 sells for around $300, a used 3.42 for about $500.
I forgot to mention that Getrag (the carrier manufacture) only makes up to the 3.73 gears. So the 3.90 and 4.10 gears are made by an aftermarket company and they are the sole source for them.
Personally I wouldn't go beyond 3.73's in an A4 unless it was a race only... non-daily driver.

Actually Mike, I'd say the exact opposite.. 3.90's and 4.10's are PERFECT for normal duty...
I'd never use them at the track with High HP cause they break too often..

Ditto what Mike said
Besides it gets old real fast running around on the highway @ 4k with a A4 been there done that :nono:

My Bad Mike... :bb
I just realized he was referring to an A4... No way would I put 3.90 or 4.10 in an A4...
Getrag are great gears for the C5. Don't forget to complement those gears with a new stall converter. Yank SY3500 or ST3500 should really work well with them. First mod I will do when I find my 01 NBM (if I find it) C5 Coupe. Can't wait!
Happy :steering:
