I have a 2002 vette coup and have had the front tires replaced..@ 14K miles ....under warranty ......due to road noise...I was told the belts separated.....now the noise is back and coming from the rear and maybe the front ..its hard to tell.....and I'm ready to take it back in with 17K miles now...
Has anyone else had any problems with the Goodyear EMT tires or just me.........
Should I just replace them with another brand and move on or just keep the GM dealer changeing them as needed....
I have a similar vehicle and mileage to you and haven't noticed any problems such as you describe. Loads of people on the forum recommend going to Michelin Pilot Sports or to Firestone runflats as the Goodyear EMTs have a very hard sidewall and hence a harsh ride.
I think the tradeoff of increased performance vs. not being able to drive on a punctured tyre is well worth it and will probably go for non-runflat tyres myself.
I wore my EMTS out them put on a very used set to get me by for a while and wore those out. I never had any trouble with either set and I wore them nearly slick. I have since switch to Bridgestone SO3's (non-runflat) and they are awsome in comparison. There are lots of opinions out there on alternate tire options. Good luck sorting that out! The first thing you should do is decide if you want to stay with runflats or switch to non-runflats then you can look at which tires of that type are best for your needs/wants.
If you decided to stay with runflats, odds are, a new set should not give you any trouble and free is hard to beat.
I think you're going to get road noise with any runflat...that's the trade-off you get for not having to worry about fixing a flat alongside the road. I switched to Firestone's and like them better, but they are still runflats and therefore give more road noise. I think you're just going to have to decide which benefits you want.
You need to do the interior noise and heat insulation mod. Search for "Evil-Twin" in archives. "Mike Mecury" also has documentation on the mod. It has a big affect on road noise from any tires and reduces the center console heat as well. The mod does take 10+ hours but it is cheap < $100 for material.
