I am going to install a system in the Vette... I already have all the componets as I had bought this system for my truck. But then I found my Vette so... lol
I have 2 15inch Kicker Solo-Baric speakers, I think I can fit these in the back of the coupe and still have space for the top as well. They dont need much air space. That along with 2 Hifonics 1000W Class D amps...
The only thing I'm thinkin is doing this I'm probably going to add close to a 100lbs of weight to the car... I dont really wanna add to much weight but at the same time I want the system to slump! Do you guys think 100lbs would be all that bad for overall performace???
You are going to be putting a lot of demand on the electrical system with those high current draw amps.that may not be such a wise idea on a car that is highly computerized and has a very sensetive electrical system.I would do some research before committing. It may not be a problem, but I have found it better to err on the cautious side when dealing with c5's.

You probably need to add a BIGASS stiffening cap and change your battey to a Yellow Top Optima. Make sure that you use a good solid ground and a HUGE power wire direct from battey. I wouldn't worry much about the electronics after that. You will notice that the lights and gauges may tend to dim out under heavy load though. Oh yeah...one more thing....EARPLUGS and a spare back window to replace this one when you pop it out!! Most people wouldn't install 1*15" and you have 2? :smash:

Yeah thanks for the tips. I know about the power n stuff... I think I might swap the stock mids and hi's after all. I have the MB Quart Q series right now so I might just run with those...
Re: Installing a System in the Vette... (Black_C5)
HI Brandon, under Forums, General Corvette Topics, there is a section called Audio/Electronics, do some searches in that section, that should be able to help.

With 2*15" and 2K watts? I would think about that, I blew one out in a 944 Turbo S with less than that...course that was at full pin....but was less than 2K watts.
Re: Installing a System in the Vette... (Black_C5)
I'm running an 800W Punch amp with a 1 farad cap and Optima Red Top, no power problems except for an occasional "charge system fault" or blown alternator :D
I had a custom box made for 3 10" RF HE2 subs which sits behind the seats and the amp sits in the large center compartment in the back (had a hole cut in the cover and a screen put in so the amp wont overheat), and the targa still fits in the back.
Re: Installing a System in the Vette... (Black_C5)
I was going to run 2 15'' on my vert but there just was not enough square footage. I went with 2 10's and 1 15" instead. It ended up sounding better anyway after switching the bass range to blend...
I am planning on switching to fibreglass in mid summer 2003.
Re: Installing a System in the Vette... (Black_C5)
My friend put 2 15's in his trunk. Mine sounded better to me....
He has his 15's covering the whole range .,. I seperated mine so the 15 hit the lower notes and the 10's hit the higher ones.
And I believe they are 10s I can go out and measure tomorrow if you want:)
Re: Installing a System in the Vette... (Black_C5)
Well the specs on the 15"s are 1.5 sq foot. sounds like you have enough. The coupe has alot more space then the vert trunk thats for sure.
My side speakers are 8"s sorry about that.
I can find some pics of the boxes later. they are very well made.
