Yup, that's what I did, too. Do they make a different light spectrum for the 9011, 9012, like what a silver star is to the 9005/9006? Sorry, don't mean to hijack, but it is relevant.......
I don't know grinder11. The 9011 is called a standard Phillips, the 9012 is designated as 9012NGPS2, called a NightGuide platinum and is a halogen. Get this, the 9012 is made in Poland, at least it isn't China. I don't think the previous 2 owners of my Vette ever drove it at night. The headlights on high beam focus on the road about 75 ft. ahead of the car. Low beam is a lot worse. I've only driven my Vette at night on one occasion, not a good experience. Next step is to aim those headlights.
I never remember to go find a dark area with a blank wall and level ground but here's a pic I snapped today of what I have currently. LED bulbs off Amazon that has CREE LEDs, $30 normally but were on sale for $20. Stock housing.
The spill above the cutoff is enough to light up road signs. Cutoff while driving is right around most cars' license plates. Doesn't look like it from the pic because it's a slight incline at the drive thru, but the light does angle down, cutoff hits the ground about 20-25 yards out.
Worth a shot imo. You won't be out much, and worth seeing for yourself firsthand instead of being guided by vague fearmongering. It's a stopgap for me before I move on to something nicer, but it makes night driving much better in the meantime.

MrMcE, you got a great deal on the bulbs. I've got a Safeway nearby, their parking lot (nice and level) has a blank wall about 5 ft. high, there'll be about 40 feet from my headlights to the wall. The lot is pretty much unoccupied after 8 PM, if it doesn't rain or snow tonight, I'll get out there to adjust the headlights. If I can get my lights set up close to what you've got, I'll be satisfied.
