I parked my Vette for the night with no known issues. Went to start it the next morning and nothing. No lights, no chimes, nothing. So I tried starting with my NOCO Battery Jump Starter which always does the job, but again nothing. I figured battery must have been really dead so I got jumper cables and was going to jump start with another car. But when I connected the cables to the battery on the Vette the Starter started to hum and sounded like it was already trying to turn over, so I stopped and disconnected cables. I figured the battery was just really dead so I charged battery a little more than half way and thought I would try again to see if in fact it was just the dead battery. When Hooking up the battery there was a little spark and again the starter sounded like it was already trying to turn over, so i again disconnected the battery.
I know that a starter relay gone bad will either have a no start but also starts continuously when its gone bad. But I learned that the Vette does not have a starter relay just the TDR. Will this be what i need to change in order to get the starter to stop constantly engaging? I figure that is the reason for the battery being so dead. And like I said I haven't had any issues or problems prior to that. Any feedback from anyone on this would be appreciated.
Car is 98 automatic with a number of mods and a new starter put in 2 years ago as well as the bypass done for the wait 10 seconds that would pop up. no issues with either since.
The TDR is in fact a starter relay, you can unplug the TDR and verify if the starter tries to turn, if it doesn't than yes the contacts of the TDR are welded together. If the starter still tries to turn with the TDR removed then your starter solenoid will have to be replaced.
