Default Upper Oil Pan Gasket Question

Was advised by mechanic that my 2003 m6 needed it's oil pan gaskets replaced, upper and lower.
After they were replaced, I noticed a larger oil leak then prior to the repair. Brought it back, they said the gaskets seemed the issue and they'd redo the work. Was just sent this photo with the remark the front timing cover appears to be leaking. Am I right in thinking this white gasket material is incorrect for the upper oil pan gasket?

That white material is Ultra-gray Permatex. You have to use it there. It’s an intersection, where the front cover gasket is meeting the oil pan (upper) gasket. The Permatex seals the intersection (joint). I’ve put many, many LS engines together in my shop and the entire process of which gasket installs first, along with the correct way to ALIGN the covers and oil pan, is a process that must be understood and followed completely, or it will leak. I’d hate to try it from below with a vehicle on a lift. I’m sure it can be done, but it’s a million times easier with the engine on a stand, turned upside down.
At this point I’d suggest that you run the perimeter of the pan bolts with a 10mm socket and torque wrench, if you have one…ratchet is ok if you don’t…IF you have a good feel with a ratchet. GM calls for 22 ft lbs, but I’ve found 25 ft lbs works better. It’s worth a try before it all has to come back apart. Spray the entire area down with a can of brake cleaner and get it real clean. This helps to see the exact area of where the weeping is coming from.
