I cant offer a solution for you as ive been ignoring the tpms messages for the last 2 seasons on my car but i can tell you that the message doesnt affect the driveabilty of the car. Traction control and active handling will still work as they should and you can still take the car up to its top speed if you want to. The message doesnt activate a limp mode in any way. Point being, not to worry so much about resolving this before you have to drive the car because it wont stop you from carrying on with your dday. Good luck with the troubleshooting, i hope you arrive at an answer quickly.
That's true, but from what I can see, when the TPMS sensors aren't being read, the car's onboard system assumes that you have 4 flat tires, therefore it parades the "low pressure" and "do not exceed 55MPH" continuously.

IT does, and its extremely annoying. I feel your pain! The tpms is the single thing i hate most about the C5. Everything else is easy to deal with.
IF you reset the message with the DIC you can get a decent amount oof mileage before it flashes again...usually during a time of deceleration.
Thank you Ledfoot4 for the corrspondence.....................I have 2 other GMs and i think some time in the future i'll need a reader and erase the cdes. I know Auto Parts stores will read them but they claim they can't erase them, which i think is BS. I think I'll order the Shrader 20117 and bite the bullet and get them installed and enijoy less stressful driving. But i will invest in another magnet to see if Relearning the sensors will co-operate with me.
This forum has been my souce of How Toos'. There is a vast array of knowledge here on CFas well as satire (OT) as which i try to read every day. Thank you members for keeping the site going. Bless You All!
While at Home Depot yesterday, I saw circular magnets in the tool department very similar to what I use. Don't know how strong they are, or the cost......

I agree on the reader. Unless it'll work on another car the OP may have, send it back.......
I had the same situation with four new sensors I bought for my 03 Vette. Could not get it to program using the magnet method. This method should not work but did. A friend helping me tried the different method for GM vehicles that entails letting air out of the LF tire first until horn beeps, then move around vehicle as manual instructs, letting air out of tire till horn beeps. Did this on all four tires and bingo, all worked ****. You do have to drive vehicle afterwards.Try this method, as you have nothing to lose? Good luck!

Interesting idea, I'm going to have to try that! I have the same issue as OP. Can't even get LF to start the process. I've tried the process you outlined on my S550 Mustang, but that still won't work on those either...TPMS are a complete pain in the you know what all around lol
Working right beside the receiver might not work once the sensor is further away. If the transmitting signal is that weak then the fronts are most likely to not work once installed.
The magnet just activates the sensor, more magnet strength than required to trigger transmitting doesn't mess a stronger signal is transmitted.
Yes, some other brands require a change in air pressure to activate them for learning. There is at least one brand with no published instructions to do this.

My old 2010 CTS had such a system. As you activated the 'learn' program, you went around to each tire, same order as the C5, and let air out until horn honked. At least it was still owner friendly. On my newer, 2014 CTS, half the damn tire companies can't even figure out how to do it, after I do the hard part of rotating them!
