Default Timing Chain

Hello guys.
Newbie to C5 world. 97 C5 base Automatic.
will this Clyoes timing chain work on my c5?
I see this is double chain not a single chain. I'm sure the chain in my C5 is single Chain.

Thanks in advance for you input.

If it's made for your model year LS engine, it should be OK. The oil pump will probably have to be spaced out from the block. The timing set should come with these aluminum spacers (2 total-1 each side). If not, I'm sure Melling, or some other vendor will have them. Depending on which timing chain and gear set it is, sometimes the timing cover needs to be "relieved" for clearance, too.

you'referring this shims in the photo?
ok then if I go with this timing chain, I have to buy shim kit for the timing cover to accommodate timing chain to fit inside the timing cover? Sorry for too many questions, I'm learning as I go along.

Yes, sorry I didn't see them. I did think the set would come with them, though. My Rollmaster set came with them. As I said, you may have to clearance the inside of the timing cover. Mine had to be, and the pump cover bolts needed some light grinding on the hex heads, as well.......

EDIT!!!!!!! You don't shim out the cover, only the oil pump. Then if you have interference with the cover, clearance the inside of the cover itself, and possibly the hex head body heads that hold the pump cover on. When you get to that point, you can use paint on the bolt heads to see it they're hitting the cover, and where they're hitting it. I prefer Hi-spot bluing......

Because it's double chained, may add weight, resulting in power loss?

And you'd pay less with an OEM style setup ($46+shipping for a Cloyes-branded one):

I agree with just using the Cloyes OEM replacement. Way simpler. Especially since doing a timing chain in the C5 is a pain in the *** by itself.

The amount of power you (may) lose running a duplex (double roller) setup would be immeasurable. Personally, I like the idea of running a second chain. It's relatively cheap insurance. I am not running one at this time, but when I purchase my next set, it'll be a Rollmaster duplex chain. I'll have to see if they make one with a cam sensor pickup on the upper gear, though. I will say, and it's only my opinion, that the advancements in chain technology have probably made running a second chain less important than it was 35-40 years ago......

Back in the day the only problem with Cloyes double rollers was ME not using loctite on the 3 bolts! That was a mess…
