Default Oil leak

After installing a new cam position sensor and a new oil sending unit. I was putting the car back together and I had to jack the front end up to clean a few parts under the car when I jacked the car up I noticed an oil leak that was significate. It leaked eventually about half the oil out of the engine overnight. I never started the car when i noticed this leak after changing the new parts I listed above. Any thoughts or ideas what could trigger this leak The leak is front of the engine a little to the front of the oil drain nut. I did check the filter and the drain nut and both are good and snug. .

Well changing the oil sender should not cause the oil to drain out of the engine. If it's leaking that much oil you should be able to find where it's leaking from.

Did you crack the oil pan with the jack? Perhaps hit a line or fitting with it?

My guess would be the front main seal. However, as others have said, with a leak that bad, it should be pretty easy to find it. Clean everything up real well. You should then be able to tell where it's coming from. It's gotta be a really major leak to drop that much oil so quickly. Sorry this happened. Good luck.

Thanks this happened right as i was reassembling the car after the repair stated in my original post.. It just seems that I would have had to do something to make this happen I know I jacked the car up on the frame and did not hit the oil pan with the jack
. Maybe it is just a coincidence that it started leaking but prior to the repair it was perfectly bone dry and now it gushes oil.

Leak has to be below oil level in the pan, if it leaked that much overnight, without running. Front seal is above this oil level. If it indeed leaked out 3-4 quarts of oil, you have cracked the pan somehow.
Would be a great practical joke to play on you however, if someone there poured oil under the car from a bottle…not that it’s ever been done…just sayin.

I agree. I've deliberately overfilled my wet sump LS7, to check for a pinched O-ring at the pump pickup tube. It takes at least 9-10qts, or more, before it's at the top of the pan. Probably another 5-10qts before it would reach the front seal level. I am with the others, in that this is more than just a bad gasket or seal. I have heard of rocks that are just the right size lodging between the pan and front cradle, which eventually wear thru the pan, causing a massive oil leak. Best of luck diagnosing, but I'm thinking you're gonna have to drop the front cradle. My 02

I went and jacked the car up and rested the front tires on a ramp so i could get under the car and this time I was able to run my had across that flat bar that is I guess suspension related because it crosses under the engine from front tire to front tire. When I initially jacked the car up and the tires are suspended the flat bar bends and there is hardly any clearance from the engine but when tires are supported the bar reacts and the tension releases creating this small gap as I described I could get my hand between the flat suspension bar and the bottom of the engine. I may have failed to mention that all this was due to me changing a few parts and I had to remove the throttle body and when reassembling the throttle body I dropped one of the bolts which I believe rested on that suspension bar under the engine and when jacking it up it punctured what ever that is above it. There is a small indention I can feel with my hand when running my had across it and that is exactly where the oil is leaking from. I would like to know what cover that is above that suspension bar and it is not the oil pan. Thanks hope this clarifies my initial post. What luck I have that scenerio is virtually impossible to happen but it happened to me Go figure GRRR!!!! Hope this aint a fortune to repair. .
