Default Oil leak

OK I would like a few opinions on this fix or repair to this problem. Earlier I posted that I jacked up my 02 C5 and when I did there was a bolt that fell from when I was putting my throttle body back on and obviously that bolt was wedged between I guess that is the leaf spring (the flat black bar that is about 4 inches wide and crosses the engine from the passengers wheel to the drivers side wheel) when jacking up the front the bolt punctured and created very small crack in the oil pan creating an oil leak. The repair would be in the neighborhood of about $2000 The oil pan alone is a little north of $1000 and I would assume the labor is about the same. I have a mechanic that has a substance that the plants and refineries use to repair high pressure pumps, pipes and pump impellers. It is designed to adhere and seal different types of metals including what the oil pan is constructed of. I am probably going to give this product a try and see what happens. Worse case scenario is it will not work but my friend says he has used this several times and it has never failed him. He knows that there are two repairs made with this on oil pans that have lasted well over years. This repair will be somewhere between $60 to $100. Would like some input into this repair. If it leaks it leaks and I will have to closely monitor it. Thanks for your opinions in advance. Product sounds similar to I would guess JB Weld but more durable and permanent.

I did a quick search on the internet and found this used oil pan for $395.00. It's your car so do what you feel comfortable doing but my suggestion would be to replace the oil pan.

If I am to replace it I would get a new oil pan for another $600 I would spend. That is a lot of work to have someone do and there could be a problem with a used oil pan. Chances are that a used one would be ok but this is such a labor intensive job another $600 is worth my piece of mind.

Pease of mind is what will make you decide to repair, replace with used or replace with new. In any case good luck!

I would grind a small v in the Crack, using a motto tool, make absolutely sure that there is no more oil leaking out and repair with JB weld.

After thinking this through and driving myself insane on what to do about the cracked oil pan that I caused doing my own repairs, I have decided to take it to the dealer and have a new one installed The price of a new oil pan (are you ready?) is a whopping $1300 and the labor (6 hrs) is another $900. After studying for the last 4 days and driving myself nuts I decided this was the best for peace of mind and a lot thinner wallet. I tried the JB weld epoxy stuff that is actually JB weld on steroids that is only available to certain industries did not work. It my have worked but the front leaf spring is in the way hampering me from accessing the crack and to remove that is about 3 hrs labor. I considered having the pan welded but cast aluminum posses different problems when welded so it is it may hold and it may not hold so to get it off and then to bring it to someone who can not guarantee the repair is not worth the chance. Searched the internet for a used one but the cheapest I found was $600 and a little higher and no telling what that one may have been through is not worth the chance either. So at least the dealership will warranty their work and the new part. Hate to shell out this kind of money but at least I know what I am getting and if I ever sell it I can now disclose of the repair with a new one. At present my wife does not like me so I will probably have to go on some vacation to somewhere I really do not want to go and act like I love it. The price I pay for loving this car but I guess it is worth it. Thanks for all the replies on a solution. One thing for sure I am graduating to a higher level of knowledge on the C5 Corvette.

$2,200.00 for a new pan, installed?? WOW.....As for used pans going for $600.00....WOW, again!! I sold my 2pc. off my 2000 vert for $250.00 + shipping, about 4 months ago. Just needed a cleaning. Guess I screwed myself!!
