Once you've got it disconnected from everything and out of it's mounts why not get it out of the way entirely? You do (usually) have to drop the cradle an inch or two to get it out so I guess that is what time you are saving. Dropping the cradle an inch or two is really not a biggie.
Its up to you.
I have never dropped the cradle to get the rack out... But that being said, if it helps you, then drop it a bit. Or loosen the motor mounts and jack it up under the pan
Well, I've made a grown up decision, lol. After realizing A) that my garage is too small and too close to the neighbors B) That maybe a few issues that are above my paygrade C) That I'm adding a catted mid pipe along with new headers, and the tune needs work anyway, I've decided to have a Corvette specialty shop to sort some of this stuff out. The shop came highly recommended and fair.
It's not quite as satisfying as DIY, but peace of mind at home as well as in the car might be worth it.
Well, they got it up and gave the car a good look over. As I expected, there are several issues to be addressed. We're looking at rear main seal, transmission seal. Had a burnt wire and some vacuum leaks. As well as ball joint bolts with no kotter pins and one backing off.
I honestly don't blame the previous owner, he had the work on the car done. Unfortunately those that did the work should not be working on automobiles in general.
But, what's done is done. The estimate is fair and the shop is well versed in high HP C5's.
Most expensive words ever..."While you're in there..."
Pulley bolt came loose, then I discovered some oil at rear of pan. Plus I have headers and shocks to get installed. Sent her to a specialist on C5's. This is actually not as bad as I feared.
Getting her straightened out by a well versed specialist. New headers, shocks, tune adjustment, and addressing some other issues.
Well, I get her back tomorrow. She has new headers with catted mid pipe, new shocks, new couplers, new wires and plugs, sealed up, tightened up, and a new top waiting at home. Fresh re-tune as well. Anxious to see how she runs. Supposed to be dry and mid-sixties tomorrow.
