Over the years we have had continued issues with the Body Control Module located in the passengers footing area. We are now on our 3rd replacement. The replacements have all been remanufactured to include one we just had replaced at the Dealer. A new BCM was not available. I wanted a new one and not rebuilt after 2 rebuilt or remanufactured ones failed. The 2 remanufactured ones were replaced at a non-dealer repair place. They would last a little over a year or so. One was replaced under parts warranty. The dealer had to send my remanufactured BCM that had failed to have rebuilt again here in Tampa. Apparently, there is a place that rebuilds for GM right here in Tampa. The dealer stated there were no signs of water damage or other issues causing the BCMs to fail. The dealer found no shorts or other issues. Of course, hopefully, the Dealer Technicians did a good job diagnosing the issue. I have a year's warranty on this one from the dealer. We purchase our Vette new and intend on keeping it.
What has the reason been for replacement? Any specific codes you remember? Who did the replacements?
My buddy has a 2000 that the BCM got wet in and had starting issues. I opened it up and found corrosion around 2 relays at the edge of the board. Unsoldered them and cleaned the board the reinstalled the relays. Put it back in the car and it has been good for the last 10 years.
Have seen a couple of other cars that seemed to have the same issue with out a sign of water in the area of the BCM. Did the same with these, cleaned the light corrosion off the board and it worked again.
So far so good with my newly remanufactured BCM. We have driven the Vette several times with no issues. Hopefully, this BCM will last. As this is a convertible will make certain left in our garage overnight although they did not find any moisture-related issues.

that has always been my understanding, that peripheral connection issues could be repaired, but because of the manufacturing methods used, any attempts to actually get in and repair something inside the BCM just tears it up, as it was built up in layers or some kind of deal were disassembly removes the circuit, perhaps something like wave soldering was used, I only read the manufacturing description once, and I probably skimmed it anyway.
But I do remember the GM had the circuit diagrams printed to get the literary copyright protections unavailable to car parts. So don't expect much aftermarket help without a change in GM parts philosophy

All three times the BCM has been replaced there have been various error codes. The most recent trunk release button would not work to allow the opening of the trunk lid. Also, the rear hatch button to open and put the convertible top in when taken down would not work at all. The worst of each time replaced the car would not start. Turn the key and nothing. No power. I could remove and reconnect a battery terminal and the BCM would reset and the car would start. These were intermittent but aways at some point, the car would not start. This most recent time the BCM was rebuilt and replaced at the Chevy Dealer. The other two times at an individual that had a Corvette Shop and had the machine flash the BCM after being rebuilt. He was great and actually also owned a 2001 Corvette himself. Unfortunately, he went out of business hence my going to the dealer. Those rebuilt BCMs were purchased at O Riely Auto Parts here in Tampa. I don' know the name of the business here in Tampa that rebuilt mine this time.
IDK if the following is true, or not. A reputable shop told me this, so they should know. Anyway, here goes: To avoid any electronics damage in the C5, I've been told that you shouldn't ever disconnect the battery with the key in the on position, and they further stated it shouldn't even be disconnected with the key in the ignition, regardless of position. FWIW......
