So Im having ignition switch problems in my c5 and took it apart and while I had the ignition switch out I noticed that there is a lot of play in the actual lock cylinder. As you can see in the pictures below, I am able to freely push and pull the lock in and out about an 1/8 of an inch. I was wondering if this was normal or if I was missing a part there if if my cylinder is just broken, and help would be greatly appreciated.
probably just wear, there are some soft metal parts inside, and I never lube that keyway myself. AS long s it still turns the switch assembly, in my book , no problem.
A trick with reluctant front door locks is to hold a badly worn cylinder in position with a finger , rather than struggling with a cylinder so worn the pins no longer line up when the key is pulled to open the door, so lots of jiggling unless pressed into place.
