I've got a whistle type noise coming from the intake area at 1500-2500 rpm, I've heard of some kind of defect in some 00 & 01 LS1 intakes that causes this...Does anyone know anything about this ? I work at a Chevy dealership, but before I become a PITA for the service advisers, it would be nice to have some more info on this...ANY info or related advice is greatly appreciated :chevy
Yep, this is on my 2001 vette also since day one. I believe it is a "dimple" of some sort on the particular intake that causes the noise as I have seen numerous posts in the past on the forum. I am not sure if I have got used to it, if it doesnt happen as much any more or if I have altered the rpm range i drive in but i do not mind anymore. This problem along with the major oil consumption are the only two things that I have found to be a problem on my 2001 vette but I have been a little afraid to get anything fixed for fear they would screw it up more.
I have the same whistle at about 2000 - 2200 RPM under light throttle. It is much more noticable in cold ambient air. I am pretty sure it is coming from the manifold rather than the Blackwing. It is not annoying enough that I am willing to let the dealer tear into it, TSB notwithstanding.
Yeah, they'll swap manifolds. The noise doesn't hurt anything. Wish I could say the same about the dealer working on it!
I decided the occasional whistle, mainly in the cold, is a lot less hassle than messing with the dealer and having my car torn apart by who knows who (no Vette Cert. Tech at my local dealer) in a dingy back room! :yesnod:
Yes, mine whistles in the 2100 to 2300 RPM range when the air temp is 45 degrees or less. I've gotten used to it...I wouldn't trust the dealership to change out the intake. I also have the oil consumption problem (about a quart every 1,300 miles). Other than that she seems to be running great
(2 years old and 5,800 miles). :)

I know the Z06 in 01 had problems with low tension rings, and buring oil. I believe the LS1 cars had the same problem. I would ask the Virginia group which dealership has a good tech and have new rings put in the motor.
My 2002 Z06 whistles like a tea kettle... I have it on video as I tach the car up on the line it makes all kinds of racket. I'm just used to it though...

J-rod, this is the first I have heard of an 02 whistling, since all 02's have the non-whistling intake that fixed the problem on some 01's.
And to reiterate to the original poster. You have a 2000 model. GM will not replace your intake since it does not fall under the TSB.
My 02 Z whistles like a tea kettle too.. Dont know why or where it comes from.. Wish I knew as it gets on my nerves when I am trying to listen to the tires melt.. hehe...
