Roll that cylinder to TDC, loosen the bolt, rotate the rocker until its centered, and torque it down. You might find there is enough play in the pedestal to get it centered.

Good advice!! I was going to post this, too. I've seen this happen on my own heads, with OEM trunnions. As Rob says, they can be slightly "cocked", and not fully seated in the stand. I've had to pinch my trunnions between my thumb and forefinger, and slightly wiggle them back and forth while tightening them down, until they are actually fully seated. I'll bet that will solve your problem. Best of luck to you.....

I dont think you need to put it into TDC, thats if your pulling out the keepers which will cause the valve to drop. No?

I think i tried the correct method according to the haynes manual with #1 at TDC and i still found myself compressing a spring when torqueing the rocker arms for #1.

This forum needs a way to the op to delete the entire thread incase of emergency like ls1tech except for sale items as they could sell something bad and split.

You must not have had it at TDC on the compression/firing stroke. You want to have it at TDC after the intake valve has stopped closing, and both valves are closed@TDC. There will be no load on either rocker at that point........

Just curious as to what you mean, when you say "converting back to stock". If you installed either the Comp Cams roller style trunnion replacements, or the Straub, BTR, CHE style of bushings, you essentially "destroyed" the OE rocker arm "guts", when you pressed them out of the rocker arms.

Correct. Purchased new oem sealed in the bag rocker arms from eBay. $10 each. I don’t want to keep opening up my valve covers to see if anything moved out of place. Don’t trust the straub kit.

I had it dot to dot i think #1 is the driverside front cylinder is at TDC. I torqued them according to the haynes manual with dot to dot says to both intake exhaust valves on cylinder 1. It wasnt much but did find out it was compressing the spring barely. It shows what 8 rockers to do at that point and with the timing gear at 12 oclock to torque the other 8 rockers. I guess you would have to do each cylinder accordingly. Once theyre torqued you can slide them side to side barely but they stay centered on the valve nothing thats binds up.
I seen they sell what i think are new rockers with the trunions already installed unless someone found a load of used rocker arms.
Is this a good set they're 210$ and come with the trunion upgrade installed. Not sure if they have bronze bushings LS1 Rocker Arm with upgraded Trunions (michiganmotorsports.com)
Not a bad price as it includes rocker arms.

Gotcha now!! Yes, if doing correct valve timing, using dot-dot, ya gotta do whatever it takes. I was referring to the OP trying to fully seat the rocker trunnion in the head/stand.....

Well, At least you put the bolt head on the Flat Side of the Trunion. When you put them in upside down you get some REAL misalignment. Don't ask me how I know that.
Have you looked at the Saddles? They get All Boggered Up if you (or a previous owner) made that mistake.

Are you talking about this?

This was installed by east coast supercharging in NJ.

Yes - The other side is round and fits into the curved saddle. I wasn't paying attention and F'd that up. Maybe I should turn on a light in my garage or something? I can't blame it on Alcohol - haven't had nuth'n in 3 weeks. Don't ask questions on THAT either.
I would expect ECS to do it right - they are Pro's.
Hey RonSS / Grinder... Look for another Rocker post from me next - I don't want to HiJack this one.

Thank you for letting me know. I might have done the same if you didnt point that out.

Not sure who is to blame. There are many reports of this straub kit being wacky.
