Had a built 346 put in my car and now that I have it back, the Active Handling warming up message up on the DIC,and the light on the dash comes on and stays on didn’t do before RR.help No ABS Traction Control light. Only the small light…..TIA..
Got a code of C1283 only 1 time . Cleared the code , test drove and within 1/4 mile active handling icon comes right back on ,and stays on … check the codes and there’s not any , go drive the car same thing Active handling warming up and stays on . No check ngine light , No Traction control light … what’s happening?? Had the SWPS checked at dealership said it was in range . Could the sterling wheel be off any and still show it was in range or not?
We need more information about the car. For starters, what year is it? There were several different versions of SWPS and Active Handling.
A quick Google search brought me to this: https://www.smokinvette.com/threads/...c-c1283.37502/
So maybe it's possible your steering column shaft coupling was disconnected, and then the steering wheel was rotated before the shaft coupling was reattached?

In the link I posted, that person's C5 is also a 2000. I'd suggest taking a read through that.
Is it possible your steering wheel was rotated due to the steering shaft coupling being disconnected during the engine install process?

.
Yes , totally removed and rack completely cleaned . I’m not sure about steering wheel being rotated , but at this point , I would guess yes . Guess I’ll disconnect and rotate to the left 1 time reinstall and drive . I had the Chevy dealer check the swps , and it was in spec . $400.00 worth ..would it be within spec if the wheel had been rotated ??
This happened to me years ago and I found a write up at that time in the Forum. As I have a 2000 also this would apply to you. The easy fix is on page 3 the first two are if you are using a Tech 2

Gordy , did you disconnect the steering shaft at the end of the rack??TIA….
Yes A friend was aligning the front suspension after we changed all the ball joints and tie rod ends and unbolted the lower coupler. The new alignment was awesome but the 1283 code came up and dash lights. That is when I searched the answer, found the middle blue wire and sure enough it was not 2.4V rotated the steering wheel right and was lucky to get it back to 2.4V. Ran great for the next 18 years til the SWPS quit.
