Howdy crew.. not sure how to splain this, have my rear wheels off, in the air and start the car, engage it in 2nd gear and i hear a repetitive clunking, sounds like a bad CV joint. but obviously not that, i move around and i don t hear it so much when i get close to diff, only on the hub end. if was a bad bearing i think would be constant, but seems to be with so many revolutions, I can t see it being in the diff, unless it is transmitting the clunking to the end of the half shaft to the hub area.
never heard this before, but don t run it often with wheels in the air either..02 C5 Z
any thoughts would be appreciated, not sure i know how to transfer video to pc from phone,, won t let me add from my phone. file unacceptable because it recorded in MP4
TIA..

Try raising each side up a few inches… the angle too sharp for the cv. The noise should go away.
after watching a few YouTube videos about what this noise could be I think it turns out to be a wheel bearing because when I do the 12 6 Push Pull I can hear it and feel it on the other side it's tighter than a drum and I watched some of the world-famous Froggies videos and that's the same noise as I'm getting, but good point I'll try and Jack them up a little bit and see if it goes away
Well that was a waste of time and money my noise is still there I was kind of sure it wasn't a wheel bearing anyways because it would make a different noise this is more like a clunking as you can tell him the video like a bad u-joint or something I don't know. FRIG
but I guess the wheel bearing needed changing anyways because you could tell him the video it was a little loose
so if anyone has any other thoughts, i would appreciate it.. i m guessing change the half shaft now

am guessing no one has ever had this noise. or they don t run hubs off the ground and no wheels on..
oh well..
Try with engine off. There is another joint on cv by diff if its not that it might be something in the diff. Thats all thats left. I had a similar noise thought it was cv but ended up be trans. Not saying that's ur problem but the sound might be radiating. Check cv first.

yes, I understand 2 cv s, how am going to check withe engine off ? Wheel off and put socket on axle nut and rotate with breaker bar ?

Reach up there and give a pull push. If possible leave tire on and turn fast right and left. If uhave someone to help u u can get under and hold that joint and see if loose. Im all most certian its the cv.

ok.. thanks.. no one to help.. i ll mess with it.. been trying to push and pull it sideways to see if anything happ.. i ll try and spin with wheel on, if no luck will take it off and spin with breaker bar on axle nut. i m guessing a cv also..
thanks Helga.
has a RPM diff and not sure if C6z shafts or not.. from what i read the C5 axle is just as good as some of the C6Z s before they were upgraded by GM. $320 each at RA or $5000 at Gm dealer.. lol

So I spend them by hand as fast as I can I can't hear anything either side, and I look for play in the high staff up down sideways in no all around knocking on the right side where it seems to be the noise is coming from, but on the left side I move it back and forth and I can hear and feel a little bit of space sliding it in and out from the Hub to the diff I'm not sure if that's got anything to do with anything oh, it's not a lot like a hair maybe just enough that I can hear it I don't think that's where the noise is coming from and I can't see or feel anything wrong with the CV joints but I'm no expert I've only been working on them for 30 years cars trucks whatever I don't know I'm kind of lost on this one
Is it possible that has something to do with the traction control cuz both wheels are off the ground and they're spinning and one's trying to grab and the other ones trying to grab and it's kicking in and out the possible that could be making the noise

n o because u said u hear it when ur driving. Any way that is a mechanical sound.
I know u dont want to do this but take out the cv if u dont wantt to drive it tell something shows its face. This is what i would do if i cant figure it out. Dont do it if ur not comfortable with this. U have to do something because its not going away.
