Much talk is heard about Blackwing, Varam, Vortex and the power abilities of each. Should be none unless at high speed or when the hammer is dropped due to forced induction. Can't be measured on dyno can it?
Now, not to start a war, but is one better than the other? Does the Blackwing breathe cold air? Some seem to think that Vortex is better than Varam. What about inhaling water and debris from the outside? Want to install soon, need to make a decision. Y2k, Torch Red Coupe, auto, 2.73(sorry about that!!)12k miles
I used the Vortex for over a year, drove through torrential downpours, never a problem.
The BW will not benefit from cool air on your car unless you install Z06 or Cold Air screens in place of the foglight shrouds. This will allow cool air to get to your intake, and then it will function as well as any others.
On the dyno, the extra power is realized because the AM intakes allow MORE air to be ingested by the motor via less restrictive elements and greater cross sectional area.
Go with what you budget and preferences are, for me, the BW is the best choice since my Z06 already has the screens. On my coupe, the Vortex Rammer was my favorite. The VR will perform equally to the others, but costs twice as much.........

What if you just cut slits or drill uniform holes in the foglight shouds? I know this sounds like a rigging job, but surely someone has tried it. I will probably get laughed out of the forum for this post but being a newbie I think I can get away with it :bb Also what is the main function of the hood seal?

cutting some holes in the shrouds is the easiest way. some people have added aftermarket precut ones (actually oem pieces with holes cut) - I did but painted them white to match the car - aesthetic reasons, not performance. I don't think there are huge gains to be made this way, and have read that little to no air actually gets in there. I have my doubts - how could it not, really? I think if you really want the cold air benefit - go with the vortex or vararam. Or go with the Blackwing - no cold air, but the easiest install, no cutting, no fuss. I have one and it works great. There was no appreciable difference after adding the cut screens. :seeya
