I have a Car Wireless FM Transmitter that I plug into my cigarette lighter so I can play my music stored on my phone thru my radio. I'd like to leave that transmitter plugged in my console box ALL THE TIME. Now with this mod I will be able to do this. Thank You
I would like to convert my cigarette lighter ports from always on to on when the car is on. Has anyone ever done that? I would like to leave my USB chargers in all the time.
If your goal is permanent USB then consider an alternative solution. Just get one of these
And wire it to a switch via a fuse tap/add a fuse. A 5 amp fuse will be sufficient for the transformer. I have ran these in my car for more than 15 years. For me, I wire a USB cable to the center console using something like
I just did this Mod. Instead of using fuse 11 (which I don't know what that's connected to) I used fuse 22 which is empty but live only when the key is on. Also more room to work with in the fuse box and all you need is one 20A fuse in the top slot. I left the dash lighter as is --- which means it is live all the time. I also used liquid electrical tape to insulate the area where I soldered the wire to the spade that I got by cutting apart a fuse

Ironically, that is exactly what fuse 11 is intended for, and the yellow wire is taped/stowed for use.
I don't know how to read these electrical diagrams and does anybody know what ASRYOFF stands for?
It must stand for something.
I didn't want to piggyback on an existing fused circuit that I didn't understand when there was a vacant, powered (only when key on) fuse location that could easily be used and provided more space to work in.
Both locations (11 and 22) get the job done.
So happy with this very useful but simple Mod.

I do not. I also do not know what the intention of "BCM 13" , which is the fuse 22 location. What I do know is there are three stowed wires from the factory the provide 1) hot at all times(orange-fuse 7) 2) hot in ACC and ON (yellow - fuse 11), and 3) a ground (black)

Yup. The only difference is fuse 22 is hot only in ON, and fuse 11 is hot in ON or ACC
Many Thanks to Simtech for this great mod! Like the OP I have a Bluetooth adapter that plugs into the lighter and I'd like it to switch off when the car is off because I plug a small USB drive into for music. For my use I think I'll leave the console lighter hot in case I need to charge something while the car is off.

I'm pretty sure that just means it is an ACCESSORY that switches off. In the wiring diagrams for the 2001-02 fuse box # 11 is called ACCESSORY POWER and # 22 is called BODY CONTROL MODULE-IGNITION 3, which I have no idea what that refers to.
@Simtech you're the guy! Super quick and simple, I used a Power Probe to double check where to plug the spade into.
For those interested #1 Fuse is for the Console (Arm rest area) and as shown in Simtechs excellent photos, use the bottom hole for your connector. The top one is constant 12V.

To make the dash lighter socket switched you can pull fuse 7 and connect the yellow and orange wires of that extra accessory harness together in the footwell. No jumpers in the fuse box are required to achieve this.

Great info, thanks! I just did that and wanted to share some pictures. removed Fuse 7 taped extra harness removed tape and isolation from yellow and orange cable connected both - done
