I purchased my 98 convertible a few years ago and the previous owner had swapped the automatic shifter **** for an aftermarket one ... and I absolutely hate it !
I went to a GM parts department and purchased a new OEM **** to get it back to stock.
When I installed it, it seems like the button doesn't depress far enough to engage the shifter ... almost like it needs to go a little further than the button pushes.
I thought maybe he changed it because the original had failed on him and this was his way of fixing it ... but when I contacted him, he said he just changed it because he didn't like it ... not sure I believe him now.
Has anyone had this problem ?
Is the long "stem" adjustable at all ??? Am I possibly missing some sort of "spacer" ???
Anyone know of a fix ?
As far as I know, the shifter shaft isn't adjustable. If he did change it in any way, he most likely cut it down some. That could explain why it doesnt seem right. That would be my best guess anyway. If you can take a picture of it maybe we can compare it to a stock one and better be able to tell. Maybe put something I some the shifter button to take up some space.
This photo is blurry and I'm installing an aftermarket ball, if you need a different one then I can remove it and get a new photo.
