Default 2001 Coupe DIC question

As the thread is titled the car is a 2001 Coupe with HUD. Before Christmas I noted that the buttons for my DIC stopped working and the DIC only displayed the car mileage, or "Door AJar" and other messages like that but it would not respond to the buttons on the right and none of the standard oil temp, trip odometer or tire pressure options etc could be selected.

In my research at the time it seemed I would need to pull the full instrument cluster and replace it which means I would be stuck with the mileage of the donor car unless I have it updated. Another option I thought I saw was to change the chip for the DIC and then the mileage could be retained. In my search of the forum this morning I can't find the thread that talked about changing out the chips so that I could retain my mileage. I'm not afraid to solder, even on small chips but I need some guidance on what I need to actually remove and replace. Does anyone remember this fix for the DIC?

I'm also not 100% against having a shop update the mileage but it seems like a headache to document and I'm also worried the tune I have for the aftermarket heads and cam could be effected if I take it to a dealer.

Okay it seems like I lot of forum members have see my post but no one has responded so I assume people haven't run into the exact information I asked about. Has anyone else encountered DIC issues at all? Are there any good resources available for doing service on these parts?

Thanks

I read your post. I’ve just never seen soldering in new chips for mileage etc. you may want to take the car to a c5 shop and just pay the diag fee. This may give you some clear options.

I forget the details, but there was a recent thread that discussed swapping a part out of a dash pod that held the mileage info. I’ll look for that…

Here’s a response to a thread I started about swapping a Z06 cluster into my coupe. It appears you can just unplug the DIC and swap it into an otherwise good gauge cluster.

Before you go any further, have you checked with any of the Corvette dismantlers fr parts? I think I have seen the button component sold individually.

Two guys that know a lot about this forum may help you find info…. vetteman jack and bill curlee .

Thanks, I'll contact Vetteman, Bill has been MIA from what I can tell. I think he might have some personal things going on that are his business and not ours but I've sent a few messages to him and I can see he hasn't been too active on the forum. Thanks for the thoughts and your inputs.

Try swapping the buttons panel first. The mileage is on a small 8-pin IC in the center of the cluster board. It's right between 2 big TSOP or TQFP packaged ICs. I've never done it, but if you're handy with soldering boards that IC should be fairly easy to swap.

The other way is to get a speedometer house to change it for you, or buy the kit to change it yourself if they're still for sale.

Thanks for the information so far, one take away from this is having a shop adjust the mileage, if required, shouldn't effect the tune that is on the vette that supports my heads and cam upgrades.

No, programming the cluster has nothing to do with the programming in the PCM.

Now, if done at GM they might try to write a stock updated tune to the car, but just tell them not to.
