Default Help! Snapped fuel pump bolts!!

As the title says.

I was wrapping up the left side main fuel pump. It's a Carter brand and it came with new screws. I set the torque wrench to 45 inch pounds. I had just finished up the right side jet pump with no issues. I reused the bolts on that side, fwiw. Maybe I should've just reused the factory ones

I was thinking of picking up some micro extractors because what do I have to lose at this point. I may have to get a small right angle drill for better access.

Anyone have any experience dealing with this?

Get good light so you can see. Get extractors and left hand drill bits. I prefer electric over air 90 degree drills for the variable speed. Between the lefty bits and extractor you should be ok. Just go slow.

Is any part of the bolt outside the block? If so this worked for me. Find a nut that fists the bolt. Put some red Loctite in the nut. Screw the nut on the part of bolt that’s outside. Give some time for Loctite to cure. Back the bolt out.

if its flush with the block drill and extract. Good Luck 🍻

No. They broke flush with the metal fittings they go into on the tank. That is a great tip though!

Being that they're such small diameter bolts, I'm gonna try to put a horizontal score mark into them with a dremel. Then I should be able to turn them with a small flathead.

If you have access, apply heat as well.

The heat won't cause the bolt or the fitting to swell? I can't imagine that they're stuck in there since I just put them in. I figured maybe a little WD just before I try and back them out.

Often times your block and hardware are of different materials. Naturally try without first, but heat has saved my *** many times over the years

These aren't on the block though, they're on the plastic tank.

Don't take this the wrong way guys. My buddy was **** about following the procedure per manual. I told him don't use the toxr on the small bolts. I don't care what people say. Wrenches are not all calibrated perfect especially that small of a trox. Well sure enough snapped a bolt. He never used that again going on 30 yrs of wreaching. To the day i still *** with him. It is mind boggling to use that on 10inch lbs on bolts. The only time i ever use a torx is for heads. Never had in issue for over 30 yrs. Sorry, two tires fell of a car. I told her she hit a pothole.

Take it or leave it if u have enough room, drill center of bolt and use a reverse bolt taker outer i forgot what its called, anyway try welding on a nut. Do small hits and u will be fine. Ok now u guys could yeah at me, i have thick skin from my wife always beat me with a puddle.

Normally I wouldn't even use one but yeah you're right, torque wrenches are over used a lot of the time.

I don't know if I can get an extractor small enough to get in there. I have small enough drill bits so I'll see how that goes if I can't cut a slot into it.

I can feel the bolt just slightly above the fitting. They're very small, maybe 3-4mm. The head is 7mm.

Those wires look good to me. Little duck tape and gorilla glue goes along way.
