Default Fuel line problem

Hi guys, sorted out 98% of problems with our scrapyard 97. Have a big one left and need some advise. The fuel return line down by the bell housing is leaking fuel. It appears at some point someone put an engine in or rebuilt the original and damaged the steel line. They slit a hose and covered it. I pulled the x pipe and the torque tube cover to see if I could cut the line and fab a repair, but there’s no way to get enough access I believe without dropping the drive train, and the lines are clamped behind the cylinder head. I put some jb weld on the worn area and hope it holds temporarily. Are there any other options someone can suggest. I’d like my son to get to drive it for a few months before we drop the drive train. All the other problems we’re solvable with some patience, but this one’s a doozy. And to think someone was driving it this way for a lot of years.
thanks for any advise

Thank goodness the JB weld worked for now. Just another project for when we drop the drive train.

Well the McGiver fix didn't last long, still dripping. Is it possible to run a set of PTFE fuel lines to the fuel filter and return line, using earls quick fittings, without dropping the drive line. I was thinking I could strap the PTFE lines to the originals for now, then drop the drive line when we do an ls3 swap this winter. Anyone have luck adding fuel lines this way. It looks like I’ll need to pull the intake again to have access to route the new hoses, but the no biggie compared to dropping the drive line, just for a fuel line. The feed, return, and vapor line are clamped behind the head, so I can’t repair the return line by cutting it out and repairing it, besides the fact when I dropped the center pipes and the torque tube cover, there’s not any room to access the lines in the tunnel without removing torque tube, that’s why I’m thinking of just running new lines, that would be plug and play.
car is running great and looks good, son and I probably have 100 hrs putting it back together again, and sons disappointed I stopped him from driving it till we come up with a fix, that’s safe. Any and all suggestions welcome.thanks

thanks for the reply, it’s fuel rated to 2500psi. Thought I would run a -8 for feed from filter and a -6 return, which would work well later for the ls3 swap.
