Is there a shop in my area that works on C5 Corvettes. Specifically 1999 with active handling option. Local dealer tells me that the car is throwing out a code c1282-c1283-c1286. And that the part needed to fix it is no longer available from Chevrolet. Is there someone who can fix this for me? I'm located Erie County, Ohio. The car is not safely drivable because at any time the right front brake engages and pulls the car to the right at any speed. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
I had a similar problem with a 97 we recently purchased. With a good diagnostic tool, similar to tech2, you can go into the bcm and turn off the active handling, I believe it’s rpo F45, and install either z06 shocks, or what ever you would like to buy. I then unplugged and removed the sensors. If it’s different than my 97 I’m sure someone more knowable will chime in.
F45 is for selectable ride shocks (F55 is magnetic). They are completely unrelated to active handling. FWIW, if you have a shock problem you can delete the option entirely, or use simulators to trick the car to think the shocks are still there and run regular shocks instead. I've heard there is no way to delete this or simulate on 2004 models.
Disconnect the steering wheel position sensor where the steering column goes into the firewall. Car will be safe to drive then. Active handling will be disabled. You will get Service Active Handling and Service Vehicle Soon but you can ignore them.
Don't know how to find the sensor to unplug it. Dealer won't do it. Wants me to find a new sensor for him to install at a labor cost of $480.00. I looked on you tube on how to unplug it but couldn't find anything.
