C5 1999 both headlight open and close without difficulty however the right headlight motor continues to run for an additional 5-8 seconds after the light is fully closed and makes a loud grinding noise during the additional runtime. is there an adjustment that can be made or a module replacement rather than replacing the entire motor as the motor seems to run fine otherwise

you need to change out the plastic gear on the inside of the motor. It’s broken and needs to be replaced.
Even if you replace the gear, the motors are still 23 years old.
I swapped to brass gears but the OEM motors themselves were tired and rotating within their assemblies so I eventually replaced both motor assemblies and they run smoothly and quietly as new.
New motors aren't too expensive and if you're at all handy with changing things, you can buy firebird motors like I did and then just swap some various old bits to the new motors and you're good to go
