Starting issue
Hello!
I’m new here. I have a 2002 C5 Z06 with now 50k miles.
I’ve had this starting issue for the past year or so. Took it to the dealer and they did a few things but still the same. They reprogrammed the PCM I believe it’s called and replaced the clutch starter switch?
Still exactly the same.
They basically have no idea.
About every other start now I turn the key and nothing. No noise at all except the chime for the key on and everything lights up as normal. I then turn the key and leave it held on start for about ten seconds as it says in the manual to do if it has trouble starting and almost like clockwork will start after about 3 tries of doing that.
Please tell me somebody knows exactly what this is?

Could be a number of defects. Three tries points to the ignition switch. The ignition switch contacts burn over time and have trouble making contact to start or for many other functions powered by the ignition switch. A common failure, my car is on its third ignition switch.
It is also possible that the starter solenoid contacts are failing or a relay in the start system. If the starter solenoid is failing, some have reported being able to start after clonking the starter with a rod.

If you hear nothing at all when you try to start then yes the contacts in the Ignition switch may very well be the problem. One other thing to check is the TDR "Theft Deterant Relay" located in the passenger footwell area above the BCM it should click on every time the key is turned to the start position, it is the relay that sends power to energize the starter.

Spraying CRC cleaner will help clean the contacts that press against the keys resistor pellet, if you have dirty ignition switch contacts then yes the whole ignition switch has to be removed and disassembled.
