Good Morning fellow enthusiasts, I can't find a thread with this already mentioned. There are however some very good ones on changing the balancer/dampener.
I just had my harmonic balancer/dampener swapped out and now I have a vibration between 1700-2000 rpms. Can't find anything wrong. I did use a somewhat generic part; a Dorman brand from O'reillys, could this be the problem?
It is a stock, base model, automatic transmission and had no vibration what so ever prior to swap.
This is not a simple pull it out and put the new one on job.
New OEM bolt, ARP bolt, or re-used the old bolt? The OEM bolt is one-time use hardware so I prefer the reusable ARP bolt.
I use the old bolt to install the new pulley, torque to 250 ft/lbs or something like that to seat the pulley (max out my digital torque wrench), remove old bolt, install new bolt finger tight, torque it to 35-40 ft/lbs then turn it a certain amount to get the right TTY setting.
I look up the correct figures before doing the job because I can't remember all torque specs and patterns for all the junk I work on. One day I'll stop procrastinating and print out a cheat sheet... one day lol
