Default 2001 using oil

I read somewhere about 2001's using oil. I just got a 2001 in april. Is there a problem with 01's?
Mine has used about a quart in about 1600 miles, it has about 26,500 miles . The dealer told me a qt per 1000 is normal???
I've never heard of using oil being ok!! :nono:
Thanks for any info.

The GM limit on oil use is 1qt per 2000 miles. GM re-ringed my 2001 coupe at 25,000 miles, it was using 1qt per 1000 miles.

Seems like 2001 is the worst year for this, but it can affect 99's to 2000's also.

Your oil use is too much for sure, by modern standards. If you take the car to another dealer who has the correct information, they will do an "oil consumption test" to determine if you qualify for a warranty repair of this.

Thousands have had this done to there vettes, there is not one published report of dissatisfaction after the re-ring, mine went great also.

My 99 factory stock on Mobile 1 10w30 uses about 1 qt between changes and I change at 20% + remaining on the oil life. This is at about 6000 miles, so my consumption is nill,, but then I am not on the strip either.. vettdvr :)

Don't let the dealer fool you. I had the same problem on my 2001 coupe. The dealer tried to tell me 1 quart in 1000 miles was normal. They also said that the blue smoke when I started it after it sat a couple of days was normal and the tailpipes turning black after a few hundred miles was normal. It is not normal! After 2 oil consumption tests they finally agreed something was wrong. They wound up replacing the rings, pistons and one of the oversized cylinders. They found that the car had heavy carbon deposits, too, that they removed. It now runs like a bat outta hell, with no oil usage after about 400 miles. No that is not normal. Go to another dealer. I am getting my 2001 re-ringed next week, I drop it off Monday. I have my fingers crossed for a smooth install. Good luck!

Find a dealer with a vette tech most techs are scared or lazy. The job does not pay well for the tech procedure calls for in car and only repl. 2 rings of the set . I ended up doing it myself and installed pistons rods bearings balance heads cam timing chain easy job if you have a lift i also went to ls6 pcv valley cover no more oil in t/b. hplum@erols.com

Try to find a dealer who has done this before, hopefully to someone on the forum who can vouch for good work being done. Good luck.
