There is quite a topic of discussion on this but in general the factory H pipe is considered not functional from the factory as most of them only have a tiny hole in them. I'm not an expert on the subject by any means but do some research on it.
Removing the H pipe will be barely noticeable compared to a straight pipe as it is most straight-- with a little cross over-- to begin with. Changin sound will involve switching out your mufflers,
I did not remove the H pipe, I enlarged the cross-over holes, which got rid of the motorboat sound.
As past pictures have shown the hole in the cross-over H pipe is about the size of a nickel. I removed all of the material so as to have the pipe diameter now. Sure wished I had taken pictures.
I wanted to go with an X pipe like I did on my previous C5, but X pipe prices have doubled since then; just would not pay that price.
Like I said, got rid of the motorboat sound, but I also removed the OEM mufflers and put Ti mufflers on at the same time.
Because it's been discussed, here on CF, several times. In fact, about 5-6 weeks ago, one member posted a video showing how he removed his C-5's "mid pipe" cut it apart, at the front structural connector, as well as at the "H" section. After splitting the pieces apart, you can clearly see the small hole in the "H" section, as done by the factory. He then opened up the "H" opening (s) to full pipe diameter, and then rewelded the mid pipe assembly back together and reinstalled it on the car....

Thank you. I'm sure this achieved enormous gains in power and efficiency.
