Default Tpms sensors

Hi Guys ,

I am looking for some advise regarding the tpms sensors on a C5 FHC i have . I suspect the sensors have come to the end of their life and i am going to replace them . I have a message that keeps coming up on the dash regarding the system .
I have ordered some retrofit sensors but believe i will require a program tool or a tool with a learn program which can recognize new sensors and my key fob . Not sure if this is actually correct or not ..Can anyone recommend a reset tool which can work on sensors which recognizes the majority of TPMS sensors . I know the most common response will be to take the car to the dealer , but unfortunately i live in South Africa and all work on my Corvettes is carried out by myself .
I am not looking to spend thousands of dollars for one operation , and a number of the vendors i have contacted advise that their reset tools or programming tools are only capable of working on OEM sensors or sensors that they distribute .
Any advice would be welcome . Currently the sensors i think are faulty are GMG2R3FM . These could have been fitted since the vehicle was produced in 1999 .

Regards,

John

Hi ,

Thanks for the response .
I set the vehicle into the TPMS learn function and went around each wheel with a magnet and did not get any horn activation when the magnet was placed on the rims where the valves are . This is why i am leaning to the possibility that the sensors are either all flat or faulty .
If i am to change the sensors will using a magnet work on the new sensors ? I am not sure and thats why i asked for advice not only for the selection of OEM sensors compared with retrofit sensors and if the magnet plan does not work what type of scanner tool is recommended .

Thanks for you response .
Greatly appreciated ,

John

^^ if they don't program with a magnet, but are giving a reading in the DIC, then they are most likely aftermarket. does the info read blank or xxx for the pressures?
Some of them require a tool to activate, which can be found for 15-30$ depending which one you go with.

I'd recommend picking one up just to have in your garage, as they work on a number of applications.

This is the one I bought

Not sure how long you left the magnet on each sensor but it is not instantaneous. Sometimes the magnet will need to be on each sensor for 10 to 15 seconds.

Hi
I only had a magnet on the end of a flexible pick up stick so maybe the strength was not enough to register the TPMS sensors , but i was also concerned that the batteries fitted inside them were also flat . You could be correct that i did not keep the magnet in place long enough though , i will try again .
I have no idea on whether these sensors are genuine OEM parts either from the date of the cars build or replaced at a later stage but they do not show the tyre pressures on the dash the pressures are just blank and the dash flashes up to service the tire monitoring system or something to that effect .

Regards

John
