Next time you change oil, carefully inspect the pan plug sealing surface for burrs or other discontinuities. Perhaps some careful file or scraper work is indicated. Original C5 drain plugs are sealed with an O ring which is usually very reliable, but an aftermarket plug with a gasket could seep.
On my vehicles with gasketed pan plugs, I always add silicone sealant to the plug before installing. This usually prevents seeps and absolutely prevents a plug you hand tightened but forgot to torque from falling out.
Jim, this is exactly what I do. I put some around the rubber drain plug gasket, and a skin coating on the pan itself. It ALWAYS seals......
Parts and labor. With an alignment. I think it's fair for a shop to do the work.
2k for a timing cover seal, a new HB, 2 new tie rod ends, and an alignment?? WOW-I agree with Supercharged111!!! Let's dissect this:
$300 for new HB.
$30 for new seal.
$75 each for new tie rod ends.
$505.00 for parts-$1,495.00 for labor-includes $125.00 for alignment.
In my area, this is outrageous, and to be honest, sounds like even more than the GM dealer would charge........
Depends where, geographically. A bit on the high side in general, but they will of course be marking parts up as well as charging for labor. Whether the price is outrageous is a very different judgment call in, say, SF versus Fayetteville.
