My k&n cai filter was dirty. I took it off yesterday, cleaned it and let it dry overnight. Oiled it this morning and let it wick. Just as the instructions said.
About an hour after driving, started getting consistent P0171 and P0174 codes. Cleared them. Started the car back up. Throws them again. So on.
It has thrown these codes a couple of times before since I got the car in April. But they were very few and far between. As soon as I did this with my filter, it’s every time I start my car now.
i’m wondering if it’s due to an MAF sensor issue. At least I hope. What do y’all think? Seeing as how it became consistent after servicing the filter it seems to make sense. Everything seems in line from what I can tell, I don’t see any hoses or clamps out of line.
my only concern is that it was doing this before. But like I said, maybe once every five or 600 miles it would throw. Now it’s every start up
If I were you I'd take the Maf out and use some cleaner on it to make sure it doesn't have any excess oil from the filter on it, and if you have the screenless MAF, get a laminar flow screen from Halltech and put that on the MAF. My car would give random lean codes when I put a CAI on it and they went away once I cleaned everything and put a Halltech Maf Screen.
OP, I had pretty much same thing when I switched the box with a clean filter. Cleaned MAF but didn't work. I was super careful cleaning it. Decided to get a new MAF and haven't had any codes since. That was 2 years ago. Not sure if it would apply to you, just putting my experience out there. GL
The descreened MAFs are sensitive to intake changes. That said, mine was unaffected by the Hurricane intake that I installed. Some with the Vararam don't have as good of luck. A tune seems to be the fix for that if nothing else makes it happy.

Thanks for the input… I will probably just purchase a new MAF. Going to get it off and take a look this weekend. Just hoping it ain’t no o2 sensor throwing or anything. Annoying either way.

It is a screened MAF for sure.. I might just need a tune.. don’t really wanna f with o2 or fuel filter or anything.

If you want to shotgun a MAF, I'd cheap out and get one from the junkyard from a truck. They only used the same 2 as the Corvette back then, metal and plastic.
