Default Passenger wiper not parking

I am stuck on what to do next. At first I thought the wiper arm needed to be removed and put back on closer to where drivers side is parked at. But then when I would drive it another day, the wiper would do something odd, move towards engine, then bump the sprayer off arm.

I took off everything and watched transmission cycle through interval, low, fast, and off. It appears the transmission is not moving into the park position when turned off. It looks like this when I turn off ignition.

this is from someone else on you tube, but mine looks identical.

the video I watched says it should do this when you turn off ignition. go clockwise , and counter clockwise to park. I am not observing this. This next pic is what I understand it should do.

I read another thread but the pictures are long expired, where it goes into pressing a recess button with a screw driver. I am not able to follow that without a video or pics.

what would you do next? Replace wiper motor assembly? Transmission part? Do something else? Scream loudly inside a Walmart ? Lol.

Here is what it looks like assembled.

thank you.

If the wiper switch is turned on, the motor should turn clockwise until the switch is turned off then the motor should stop then reverse direction and then turn off. If it doesn't do that the motor assembly or switch is bad, the cam adjustment doesn't control the motor to stop and reverse direction. The shop book has some steps to troubleshoot the system. Try removing the cam assembly from the motor and see if the motor stops then reverses when the switch is turned off. If the motor is old I would suspect it needs replacement before the switch does.

Here is the troubleshooting chart from a 2000 service manual.

Let me know if you want more info from the manual.

I tried removing the cam assembly and observe just the motor. I put a flag on it to watch. I never saw the counter clockwise motion when turning wiper switch to off, or turning ignition off. It did the clockwise action though. Could a bad motor appear to just affect the right wiper ? I bought the car a year ago and the wiper was slightly higher then, thought I would just take it off and reseat it. I think what may have happened is counter clock wise might have intermittently functioned? Tried to pull the wiper back too far, over the rest poll? I have not tried the steps in the above diagram yet, where it mentioned taking off a pigtail.

You and I seem to have the same symptoms @ruttrow. It's important to note that the passenger side wiper arm is always somewhat higher than driver side while in the "on" position. The wipers positions in your photo are where the wipers normally stop just before parking. My wipers have been in that same position since they stopped parking themselves below the hood. I also looked at that video and confirmed my parking trigger is hanging out and moving back and forth easily. The next step is to check the circuits in the harness to make sure there is less than a volt with the switch in off position as outlined in the manual. Something tells me we're going to end up at the motor contacts somewhere in the belly of the beast, haha.

Mine are not parking also sometimes - I find spraying some wax/Teflon chain lube into the motor area helps the situation, even without remove the cowl cover.
