Does anyone think that they are to low geared with the 4.10's?
Anyone wish they would have gotten 3.90's instead?
What if you drive 100 to 150 miles at highway speeds daily?
I have 3.42's now, I just want to make sure I get a ratio I like.
Note to Chris at East Coast Supercharging: I am buying a snowblower today, so now all this snow will end for sure! Then I come get some 3.90's or 4.10's
I'll trade my 3.42's with you. I have to warn you though it looks like it's going to need a seal on at least one output shaft. Maybe we can work something out with some $$'s and trade pumpkins. Then you could trade the 3.42's for a 3.90.
I think they are perfect, in all gears. Great setup. PS, what exactly are you unhappy about with the 4.10s since you didn't really post what your complaints were
C5Noir, Sorry if I overposted! I have stock 3.42's now. I just want to make sure of what people think of the 4.10's before I decide. For example, If you have to feather the gas pedal all through 1st and 2nd, what's the point of having such low gears?
Feathering means less throttle and less horsepower it seems to me. So unless you have some sticky drag race tires on there, maybe 4.10's are too extreme for everyday driver?

I meant feather the gas UNTIL you get traction, then you can hammer it ;), not feathering through both gears ;)
I love my 4.10's with my A4, and your M6 will be even easier on the highway then mine. If you love performance without drag racing then the 4.10's are your choice. If you love to drag race and street drive, then the 4.10's are your bag....hey I think that means either way you will love the 4.10's. :D

   Get the 4.10's ya wimp :jester :seeya
There's really not a lot of difference between 4:11 and 3:90s. After driving a car (not my "Vette) with 4:56 gears I think 4 :11 s or 3:90s are probably a good compromise between 1/4 mile performance and reality, but if I had it to do again, I'd probably go for 3:90s.............Just my $0.02:cheers:
I'm just curious. Could someone running a 3.90 or 4.10 and a six-speed tell me how many RPMs the car is turning in sixth gear on the highway at, say 70-75 MPH? I'm just curious what a difference the six speed makes. I want to say my 72 LT-1 had 3.73 gears and I'd cruise an Interstate in the 70-80 MPH range and with a four speed I think it was turning aound 3400 RPM. Anyway, on a long trip it was loud. That sucker had no A/C so the windows and rear window were generally down and out.
IMO 3.73's wouldn't make enough difference in an MN6 (9%) to be worth it. On the other hand, though I'm happy with my 4.10's, I can easily see where a good compromise would be some 3.90's (14% increase). I think if you're packing a lot of horsepower, which I'm not, then maybe 3.90's would be the best because the horsepower would make up for the extra 6% in gears and you would have a higher top end. And the 3.90's are very close to a stock MN12. Being spoiled, I'd like to have the extra top-end of the 3.90's with the extra thrust of the 4.10's...but that's not likely to happen...so I'm happy with the 4.10's. One thing I will say is that the first time you put those 4.10's to the test like I did the other night, it becomes kind of a moot point because you're grin is so wide it's hitting the windows on both sides of the car! :D
Liberty2000: The rpm's at 70 mph in 6th are: 3.42-1520; 3.73-1663; 3.90-1733; 4.10-1823. For 80 mph in 6th: 3.42-1737; 3.73-1900; 3.90-1981; 4.10-2083. Top speed in 3rd (6200 rpm) 3.42-109.7; 3.73-100.6; 3.90-96.3; 4.10-91.6
I probably lose 9-10% on gas mileage but still get over 27 mph on easy highway cruise. You don't have to shift down from 6th to 5th very often with the 4.10's while cruising. Taking off is a lot easier, and you could take off in 2nd or shift from 1st-3rd if you wanted better mileage. I know some people say that mileage shouldn't matter in a Vette, but some people probably care.
Finally, the only way I could determine which gears to get would be by looking at what I am trying to achieve. If you're a Z06, I'd keep the stock gears and spend the money elsewhere. If I had 450 rwhp, I'd get 3.90's. But where I am right now, I'd go back to the 4.10's without blinking.
I read somewhere that the best gears for drag racing are those that put you at peak HP as you are crossing the end of the 1/4 mile. Where is peak HP on the C5, ~5500RPM? Then I guess the posts above can help you to choose the right set up if you know what MPH you trap at in 4th gear. Don't 4.10s make you shift into 5th before the finish line? Oh well, this might only be a good theory for the die hard drag racer. Then again, it might not be a good idea at all.
