I'm thinking about getting a an extreme cam for my Z06 that will according to some posts put out 440rwhp? I'm not sure if I read this incorrectly or if i'm missing something.. Anyways I was thinkin about camming it and then getting either a 3.73 or 4.11 gear along with maybe a 75-100 shot of wet NOS (through f1 tnt kit).. Anyways which gear should I go with for this combination the 3.73 or the 4.10 and how much will this take off of my top mph? If you guys could help me out with this info it would be greatly aprpeciated
I know someone in this forum has to know about this stuff... 50 or so people have looked at this post and know one has responded... Come on boys I know you guys are wise in this ;)
The perfect gear for your mods is a 3.42. Yep, that's right, the stocker. If in fact you plan to lay down that kind of power with a shot of nitrous to boot you will NEVER hook up in the first 2 or 3 gears. Remember the gearbox is different in the Z06 than a standard C5.
Also you'll never get 440 RWHP from a cam. Maybe crank HP is what they were talking about.
Well you can get atleast 400rwhp with a cam swap... That along with NOS is what i'm thinking of doing... I want to get into the 10's with radials.. With heads/cam i'm afraid of too much torque and loosing traction... Ok what about a cam and gear swap only? What do people think about the time on that... I know cartek has sucessfully reduced e/t's drastically with a gear swap...
Depending on the year of your Z06 I think 400 would be generous, at least for a cam that is driveable. Then again I don't like lumpy cams. Anyway, if it's for the track then maybe a 3.73 but unless you plan to run ET streets traction may be an issue. Drag radials will be overloaded with a 3.90 or 4.10. This is just my opinion though.

Because of the Manual tranny in the Z the stock 3.42's act like 3.90's. I am with some of the others. You really don't need the gears. . .or you really don't want to hook.
I think your stock 3.42's are the right gear because they are approximately the same as a 3.90 on an MN6. If you go to a 3.73, that will be the same as a 4.25 on a MN6 and I think that's way too much. If you wanted the same as a 4.10 in an MN6, you'd have to get a 3.59 and they're not available.
I'd stick with stock gears and use the money for other mods.
