it points in the direction of Air Flow.........
The direction which the air flows in the hose you are inserting it into.

Actually, the arrow goes towards the throttle body.. the arow represents airflow, and since we are dealing with vacuum, the air flows FROM the intake TO the throttle body.. so the arrow points AWAY from the intake..

Does PVC stand for positive crankcase ventilation ? It's to recirculate some of the unburned gas mixture escaping during opening & closing of the intake valve. Under high revs and/or boost some of the oil comes w/ it.

Nevrenuf, got to specify which intake...air intake or intake manifold

Here we go. Phil just e-mailed this to me, maybe this will help. Arrow goes towards the air intake. Here is his e-mail.

i was reading that confusing butt post about the pcv mod,,,,,,,,,i can see where some people will be confused due to some of those explanations,,,,,,,,,anyway,,,,,,i was about to post this but decided i would send it to you directly along with pic of my setup,,,,,,,,,,my setup will be slightly different because i have a supercharger but instead of hooking it up to where i have it, you would just hook it up to the intake manifold,,,,,,,,below is what i was about to post,,,,,,,,attached is my pic of my setup,,,,,,if you have any questions let me know and i will see what i can do,,,,,,,,i put a yellow arrow on the pic to show which way the flow is and which way the arrow on the actual air filter is pointing

phil

LOL..oh man,,,,,,this just keeps getting better with some of these explanations. Which direction it points is irrelevant due to how it might be mounted. It can point to the driver, passenger, engine, or even the moon, it doesnt matter. What does matter is as long as its installed in the proper DIRECTION OF FLOW. The flow goes FROM either the valve cover or the valley cover below the intake manifold TO the intake or throttle body. The intake or throttle body will be sucking out the blow-by gasses from either the valve cover or valley cover below the intake manifold. I have a hose that comes out of my valley cover then goes into the air filter, then through the original pcv valve, then it goes into the intake of the supercharger. For most others it would connect into the intake manifold. I have a pic of my setup if someone is interested, im not sure how to post pics on this thing.

Go here, he gives pretty good directions. Just remember that the arrow goes towards the Air Intake and not the intake manifold.

Mine collected too much water so I yanked it off, back to where I started.

OK, so I've read a lot about this mod. Sounds good to keep the oil mist from collecting in the manifold/TB, but has anybody really compared the fuel octane requirements before and after? I currently have to use 94 octane to keep from pinging at somewhat less than WOT (never had the cujones to mash it to the floor yet). If I do the mod, will I be able to switch back to 93? No opinions here, just facts, please!

Too late for the mod. to be of any benefit in your case, there's probably gobs & gobs of carbon buildup from that granny driving style of yours. :jester  Need to put the pedal to the metal every now & then to vent out carbon deposit :D
Seriously there's a decarbonization procedure in here somewhere. Just need to do a little search. :)

Oh come on!!! Why is it so many people don't know how the flow goes? Ok. I give up, I updated the site for you all. Obviousely you did not follow the instructions and drink the MGD. Because if you did, it wouldn't be so confusing. So, I changed the instruction for you non-drinkers. http://benelliwang.badassride.com/Engine/index.html#PCV
Is this simple enough for you????

Hey, that's a pretty dirty engine compartment you've got there. By the way, what kind of blinker fluid do you use?

So it looks like benelliwang has it backwards? It seems to me it would be the flow of the air, which from the fact that the oil is getting into the TB, the air flows from the valve cover towards the TB.

Yep, we are still getting two different stories on this one! To me it looks like it must be able to operate either way. I just checked mine (points toward air intake) and it is working. If it is so easy then why are there two different theories on this?

Typically a moisture trap, which is what people are using here, is configured to have an input port which connects to a tube running down into the container, which acts to direct the vapor to the bottom of the container, rather than permitting it to flow directly to the exit port. The exit port is connected to the top of the unit, without a dip tube, so the condensed liquid cannot reach it. Assuming that this is the way those traps are configured, if you hook it up backwards (dip tube port towards the intake manifold of the car), once the liquid level gets above the bottom of the dip tube, you'll be sucking liquid into the engine, rather than vapor. :nono: Very bad.

This is getting crazy:
benelliwang take a look at your installtion & the last picture you posted
&you will see the red arrow is pointing toward the hose that comes from
the valve cover & if you look at the arrow on the filter it is pointing in the opposite direction, or toward the intake manifold as it should.
Everyone else the air rushing into the intake manifold creates a suction
like sucking on a straw & thereby draws vapors from the crankcase via the valve cover. Therefore the arrow on the air filter body should point to the
the intake manifold,i.e. vapor comes from the crankcase to valve covers to
air filter to PCV to intake manifold. I'm done.

Now I'm totally confused. Maybe its just because I'm tired today, but I'm pretty sure the hose from my valve cover goes straight to the trottle body. There is another hose that goes from the top of the front of the block to the front of the intake manifold. There is another one that goes from the other side of the front of the intake manifold (driver's side) that goes through a valve near the coils and back towards the back of the block. Are my hoses all messed up?

Silly lawyer, put a trap in each hose, and you're sure to get it right somewhere!
