I have a Schumacher battery tender, been using them for years. My Yellow top went bad on me so got a new battery. When using the tender on the Optima, I hooked it up to the top posts with my battery cables connected to the side posts.
Bought a Diehard Platinum AGM from Advance, yellow top only lasted 3 years this time, they don't seem to be as good as they used to be. But anyway, the Diehard does not have top and side posts, so the only way to hook the tender up
it to the cable bolts. This causes a cycling, or growling sound coming from the fuse box foot well area. Not clicking like it is a relay. Stops when I unhook the tender.
Any idea what is causing this? Never been an issue before, but I did not hook the tender to the cables before. Should I disconnect my battery to use the tender?
A battery tender should not cause any kind of noise to come out of the interior fuse box area, you may have a bad battery tender, and you shouldn't have to disconnect battery cables to connect one.
From what I've read, Optima batteries are not what they used to be as far as quality control. I have two Odyssey AGM batteries in my Jeep that seem to do well when I maintain them properly, and I think that's the brand most people recommend these days.
