my battery is drawing 1/2 an amp..i located the drain..its the DIC buttons to the right of the dash....eg: fuel..options..reset ...the lights are staying on ...my question is what controls these lights?...is it a relay?..the computer?...the alarm?...where can i find these devices?...any help?...
TBONETERRY,
Don't know if you're getting any codes. But here's some info that may help.
Diagnostic Aids
The following conditions may cause an intermittent malfunction to occur:
An intermittent short to ground in the DIC switch signal circuit.
An internal short to ground in the DIC switch.
The DIC switch is pressed for longer than 60 seconds.
If a DIC switch is pressed for longer than 60 seconds, a DTC may set with no malfunctions present. Always verify that this condition did not occur before diagnosing a DTC.
For intermittents and poor connections refer to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems.
Test Description
The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.
Tests for the normal state of the DIC switch using a scan tool. The scan tool will display the normal state as INACTIVE, and ACTIVE when the switch is activated.
Tests if the IPC is able to detect a change in DIC switch. The scan tool will display the normal state as INACTIVE, and ACTIVE when the switch is activated.
Tests for a stuck or shorted DIC switch. If the DIC switch is stuck or shorted, the state will change from ACTIVE to INACTIVE when the DIC switch is disconnected.
NO DTC CODES ...everything is clear..but i am wondering about that 60 second pressing of the switch...i may have done that while setting up a FOB or something..how do i know if the DTC was set from pressing the switch?
Hmmm... you say the lights behind the buttons are staying on?
Are there any other dash lights on? You might try some simple things first like reseting the ECM by pulling the battery. Could possibly be a stcuk relay?
Would try to narrow down which fuse that circuit is on and then test from there.
Good luck
mike
after removing my cluster this week...i was really surprised at the wires and numbers of rough metal edges behind the dash....might be something as simple as a wire grounded to metal somewhere behind there.....
The illumination lamps for this switch are controlled by the dimmer circuit inside the Instrument Cluster. If these are the only illumination lamps that stay ON al the time, after the other interior switch illumination lamps have shut off, you have a defect inside the Instrument Cluster itself (the dimmer circuit for the DIC switch illumination.) Replace the Instrument Cluster $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
