Does anyone know or heard of someone using an electric waterpump on their ls1 daily driver and if so which one and how do you route the belt after that? claims 10+hp from in the older days on 60-70s classics. Do they flow as much as the stock pump?
ls1 waterpumps the bolt on rear cover and pressed in plug
May i ask why theirs 2 different versions of ls1 waterpumps? The original stock one is the rear cover bolt on style off a 99 z28 and the other is off 00 ss water same as corvette fbodies has the pressed in plug style. I knew someone who had a g8 ls2 and had the pressed in style that would push the freeze plug out causing him to use the bolt on rear cover style unless i was misinformed.
Now about waterpumps can the 300$ ac delco 2010 ss autozone water pump be used on the corvette ls1 engine? f-bodies? The pulley is thinner and not bulky can they be run and also the corvettes have the short crank close accessories and f-bodies medium while truck have the long snout balancer and accessories that stick out.
Can the ls3 2010 ss waterpump be used on ls1 corvette and direct replacement belt lines up? And is the newer camaro ss a shortsnout type of accessories?
If the motor is a brush type the brushes will wear out and the claims about horsepower gains seem inflated since the alternator is driven by the engine and it supplies the pump motor. I have a Meziere LS pump that needed brushes and after those were replaced the bearings failed so it was replaced with a mechanical pump from NAPA. The flow on the electric pump was ok but not the reliability, the belt routing on that design was the same as stock because a large idler drum was part of the pump and fit over the electric motor.
Not a daily but was driven several times a week, had the meziere I think it was the wp319, ran it for about 5 years on my c5 then about a year on my c6
