Default Steering column connector?

1999 manual coupe. Chasing by some electrical issues and pulled the covers for the steering column. There is this connector that does not have a home. It goes into that aluminum box marked 0231. The steering wheel is at the top and I took the pic from the bottom. It’s a long shot. Any ideas?

You are asking this in the C6 section, should be posted in the C5 section. However, I can answer this for you.

This looks to be the steering column lock wiring. You probably have the Corvettes of Huston Column Lock Bypass installed.
Does the steering wheel turn with the key out of the ignition switch? If it does you do have one of the bypasses installed.

What gremlins are you trying to figure out?

I will have to dig into the dash a bit more to see if that bypass module is in there. When I bought the car, I was getting the "pull key, wait 10 seconds" message and installed the LMC5 bypass in the footwell. No messages since then.
The fog lamps and rear lights are not working and the remote would be "forgotten" occasionally. The brake lights work fine. Diagnostics tracked it to the BCM as bypassing the BCM caused the fog lamps and brake lights to light up.
After replacing the BCM with a rebuilt module from RockAuto/Cardone, the issue persisted (sometimes, like every few start cycles they would work). There is some interesting wiring in the footwell. We think there may have been an after-market alarm at some point and the mixed up wiring may be causing the BCM to get mixed signals. Lots of rabbit holes to investigate.

I found instructions for that bypass. I cannot find a bypass module or even a connector that my homeless wire should be going to. Frustrating.

this is what we are trying to sort through. Clipped wires, connectors hanging out and wires soldered together.
