Default Pup Cat Heat Mitigation

I don’t care for the placement and nuclear heat from the pup cats on my 2004 coupe. I believe one year model did not have them, but not sure.

Do I need them?
Cheap and easy fixes?
Tried insulation on the firewall, footwell?

I would bet it's from the main cats. They are literally right under you. I used this and am so happy I did.

Wow - never realized they got that hot. Guess I lose that bet.

Melted the clutch fluid line at the connection. Fixed that and wrapped the new line with a DEI sleeve. I’m going all out to reduce cabin and engine bay heat; this is one of the sources.

02 and up Z06's did not have pup cats. All LS1's from 01 on had them. Some 2000''s had them if they had California emissions Pre 2000's didn't have them.
You don't need them. Nothings cheap these days, but 02 and up Z06 cats and pipes would work. As would the earlier systems, but you might need the manifolds too.

With what every the exhaust you are running (mine is ceramic coated LG Pro long tubes headers and x-pipe, with relocated cats) DEI's full tunnel plate and tunnel side insulation kit, along with the VetteNuts interior insulation kit makes a world of difference.

C5MSG2004Vert - That’s an option, but as you pointed out probably expensive.

Might be more cost effective to mount some high temp insulation on the panel next to the cat. I believe Heat Shield Products also makes muffler wrap heat shield that can be used on cats.

I’ll be doing the tunnel plate upgrade and DEI tunnel heat insulation soon, so that would be an opportunity to take a close look and devise a plan.

I have the stock exhaust. I bought a used C6 tunnel plate and the DEI insulation kit, and I already did a three layer full interior sound deadening. All that helps for sure!
