I have tried to play a CD in my 2000 C5. Each time it kicks it out with a message, "Err". Anyone have similar problems or know of a solution?
I have had a similar problem, but not with a Corvette. As I recall, I "fixed" that one by cutting power to the unit for a while, then reconnecting it. That one I was able to remove from the dash easily to unplug it; this car isn't so easy. So in your case I would disconnect the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect.
If the CD is a copy rather than the original production, it may have to do with the CD material. Some CD players are very sensitive to the type of CD used especially in copies. Also, try spraying some electronic cleaner in the mechanism such as CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. This stuff saved me from replacing an ignition switch in my C5 that turned out to be just some contamination that the spray took care of.

Err means the CD player was unable to read the CD. CD could be dirty or scratched, player mech could be broken and not spinning the disc, changer could be not positioning the disc correctly, laser sensor could be dirty or failed, or any number of other possibilities.
If you're using the single CD player in the dash I'd try a shot or two compressed air in the slot because it's free to try and harmless.
A lens cleaning kit like this one MIGHT help if a dirty lens is the problem:
At this point your player is 20+ years old. There are many, many replacement options, including options with Bluetooth streaming from phones for music/navigation/phone calls. If you go the replacement route a double din bezel gives the most flexibility with current offerings. Here is one: http://www.metraonline.com/part/DP-3021B
I had that problem when I first got mine and all it was is that I had the CDs inserted the wrong direction. I popped the tray back out and turned them around and it worked fine. Hope yours is that easy
