Default non functioning white plastic radiator drain plug

Hi:
I have a 2004 with the white plastic drain plug that must be turned 1/4 turn counter clockwise with a ratchet to drain the coolant. It was stuck initially and wouldn't turn at all. With some gentle persuasion I managed to get it to turn but it would not drain. I understand it is better to remove the bottom hose to drain the radiator but this is difficult to do because of all the "stuff" in the way. Any suggestions on how to get the drain plug to drain?

Once you turn the plug you have to pull it. You do not have to completely remove it, but you can if you want.

So you turn it and then grab the white plastic portion that you just turned with a pliers or something and give it a moderate pull?

I'd replace the petcock with the style that has the plastic wings. That way you can drain your rad without having to deal with tools. When I got my Vette the plastic on the petcock was all stripped out. Thankfully I was replacing the radiator, so I just drilled through the petcock.
