We needed one on the 03 Coupe and it was auto dimming. I found one but it was over $200. I went with an aftermarket one that just attached to the original mirror front. Car doesn't get driven at night enough to matter if it auto dims or not. It's not a show car and works just fine.
If it's just the glass...you simply pry it out with a plastic trim removal tool. It's held in with 4 small plastic ball and socket type connectors top bottom left and right

Didn't know the C5 had auto dimming external mirrors?? My 2000 vert has heated and memory, but no auto dimming I'm aware of on either side. Maybe it was optional on later model run cars? Learn something new every day...

I'm sure there be a thread someplace about this, but who has experience on the replacement of outside rear view mirrors?
Thanks!
I bought one from a Corvette salvage yard. Was lucky enough to get the same color so no painting. Remote and heated but no dimming feature. $125.00...
contemporarycorvette.com GOOD LUCK!

You can only have the external dimming mirror (driver side) if you have the internal dimming mirror. If you have the regular manual mirror inside you can't add the dimming outside mirror because the wire harness doesn't support it

Electrochromic Day/Night Inside Rearview Mirror with Map Lamps (Option) Your vehicle may have an automatic electrochromic day/night rearview mirror with map lamps. This mirror automatically changes to reduce glare from headlamps behind you. A time delay feature prevents rapid changing from the day to night positions while driving under lights and through traffic. The mirror includes two map lamps and an automatic dimming function. There is also an interior console flood lamp located underneath the rearview mirror which remains on at all times. The automatic dimming feature is turned on or off by pressing the IO button located on the lower part of the mirror. Press and hold the IO button for up to three seconds to turn this feature on or off. When cleaning the mirror, use a paper towel or similar material dampened with glass cleaner. Do not spray glass cleaner directly on the mirror housing.
Driver’s Outside Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror (If Equipped) The driver’s side outside mirror will adjust for the glare of headlamps behind you. This feature is controlled by the on and off setting on the inside electrochromic mirror. See “Electrochromic Day/Night Inside Rearview Mirror” in the Index.
Thanks, JDM. You're an asset to this forum!! I seem to remember this now, in the distant past. BTW, I will ask you for help adding pics in the near future, via PM....
