Default Brake Diag

The coupe has been parked outside in the cold for about two weeks. Today it picked up to 61* and I needed to run to the store.

The brake pedal felt light when I started the car. But I didn't think of it. Presuming low vaccuum pre start.

But at my first slow down leaving the neighborhood my boot began sliding to the floor with little resistance and little response.

Brought it back and parked. No leaks inside the wheels so calipers and stainless lines are ok. New abs lines from master to abs look ok, no leaks. Master is full. Maybe too full really.

Strange. A mystery for the short term. I wish I had gone out earlier because it would have been a great day to tear it apart otherwise.

The last time i had that same experience it was a failure of the master cylinder. Look at the brake fluid and see if it is black, if black a seal has rotted and let go in your master. Did it throw any codes?

No codes. Definitely black. Good point. And it was flushed late summer so it ought to be lighter. I'll check it out more by daylight tomorrow to verify the rest is good. But a new master may be in order. Easy enough to do.

I've been dead sick fir a month. But did replace the brake master with GM original version and just jumped the car since it has been sitting. Pedal remains soft to the floor. I'll look again in the light tomorrow to ID any leaks. I'll also check vacuum line. My only thought if there are no leaks woukd be to bleed it all if I can to verify. And maybe the booster is busted? Never had that happen in any of my cars.

I have to ask, did you bench bleed the master before installing ?

Yup.

Front bled fine. Rear one did not bleed out though, no matter how many times I cycled the plunger.

Well that doesn’t sound good.
